Living Room, Entrance Hall and Hallway Renovation in a 1970's Detached House

The living room, entrance hall, and hallway of this 1970s home were renewed into a fresh, cohesive, and more practical space for everyday life.

Project Information

Project type: Apartment renovation
Contract type: Main contract
Scope: Renewal of the surfaces, electrical systems and lighting in the living room, entrance hall and hallway, including interior design
Renovation period: October to November 2025
Client: Private customer
Location: Joensuu

Objective and Initial Situation

The customer wanted to update the living room, entrance hall and hallway into contemporary, bright and functional spaces. The original 1970s interior was dark, and the materials, lighting and storage solutions reflected the style of that period.

In the living room, feature walls, old window structures and a dark-painted fireplace wall defined the appearance. The entrance hall and hallway were narrow and needed a clearer, more organised layout. The functionality and overall appearance of the spaces no longer met the customer’s needs.

Interior designer Henna Pekkinen from LillaVilla created the interior design plan that formed the basis for the complete renovation.

Solutions

Both the surfaces and technical systems were updated to create a bright, cohesive and contemporary interior.

The main improvements included:

  • a light-coloured MDF suspended ceiling to make the spaces feel brighter
  • contemporary recessed LED lights providing even and pleasant general lighting
  • levelling and painting the walls in shades selected by the interior designer
  • new warm-toned flooring throughout the renovated area
  • updated entrance hall storage with a sliding-door wardrobe and new furnishings
  • slatted acoustic feature walls in the living room and entrance hall to add warmth and visual rhythm
  • replacement of the living room windows
  • replacement of the exterior door with a contemporary insulated door
  • updated electrical installations and lighting to meet current requirements

The Final Result

The completed interior is clear, spacious and contemporary. The light-coloured ceiling and recessed lighting provide generous general illumination that complements the natural light. Continuous flooring and smooth wall surfaces create a calm, polished and timeless appearance.

The living room was significantly transformed. The slatted feature wall and retained black fireplace now create a balanced focal point. New storage solutions improved the functionality and organisation of the entrance hall and hallway, making the entrance feel more spacious and orderly.

The completed renovation reflects the customer’s wish for a bright, contemporary and harmonious home.

Customer Feedback

“Thank you for designing and renovating my living room and hallway. I am extremely pleased with the final result. The spaces now look and feel completely different. The quality of the work is excellent.”
