    Housing company sauna facilities renovated to better meet residents’ needs

    The original communal sauna facilities and changing room in an apartment building constructed in 1966 on Niskakatu in Joensuu had become worn over time. The shareholders wanted to make the area more comfortable and accessible. The housing company has always taken a positive approach to renovation, and over the years, several improvements have been completed to increase the value and usability of the property.

    During the initial inspection, the client and Jokiväri’s Jukka Lasaroff planned details such as the surface materials and sauna lighting. Jukka also contributed to the accessibility planning. Low, three-level steps were installed to make it easier to reach the sauna benches. The colour scheme for the changing room was designed by Henna Pekkinen from Lilla Villa Design Studio.

    Housing company representative Esa Piipponen was actively involved throughout the project, and the cooperation proceeded in a positive spirit.

    “We received expert service from Jokiväri at every stage of the renovation. Tiler Tuomo was a true professional. He worked efficiently and paid close attention to detail. The workmanship was clean and careful,” Esa said with satisfaction.

    “Communication was active on both sides, and we were able to move things forward smoothly throughout the renovation,” says Jokiväri’s Jukka Lasaroff.

    The project was delayed from the original schedule because moisture was discovered in the facilities, and the structures had to be dried before the renovation could continue.

    During the final inspection, which was also attended by some of the building’s oldest residents, the renewed sauna facilities received a great deal of praise. Access to the benches worked well, and the residents responded enthusiastically:

    “Great, we can go to the sauna again on Saturday.”

    The renewed sauna facilities now offer residents a more comfortable and accessible sauna experience.
