Metropoli Shopping Centre, Joensuu

In this extensive renovation project, all advertisements and electrical equipment were first removed from the façade. The panel joints within the work area were then renewed, including the backing materials. In total, an impressive 1,200 metres of joints were completed.

The façade was pressure-washed at approximately 300 bar. The concrete sections were primed using a gel primer and then finished with two coats of paint. The total painted area was around 800 square metres, larger than a football pitch.

All fixed metal components on the façade were maintenance-painted, and the window flashings were replaced in a colour matching the renewed façade.

A 100-square-metre Alupro façade louvre system was installed on the parking deck to direct the wind. The new louvres also help prevent the accumulation of snow and water and, most importantly, stop birds from flying through the structure.

The glazed structures above the main entrances on Kauppakatu and Niskakatu were removed. New custom-made metal frames were installed above the entrances and glazed with opal glass. Eye-catching LED lighting was added to the metal frames.

The plinth was fully tiled using 30 × 30 cm tiles, installed with Mapei two-component adhesive. Acid-resistant corner trims were fitted to the external corners.

The façade lighting was modernised, and the illuminated signs were refurbished and reinstalled.

The extensive façade renovation was completed between May and August by a four-person team.
