Diverse Work and a Great Team!

“My feelings this morning are a little bittersweet because the summer is coming to an end. Overall, I feel good, and it has been a great summer,” Markus said on his final working day. Markus spent nearly four months working in Jokiväri’s site management team during the summer. He is studying Industrial Wood Construction Engineering at XAMK in Savonlinna and is about to begin his third year of studies.

“I have learned an incredible amount during this summer. I have gained a great deal of knowledge about renovation and repair construction, customer service, working with personnel, and problem-solving.” His ten years of experience as a carpenter have also helped him understand the employees’ perspective.

One of the highlights of the summer was a larger construction site where Markus was able to use the wood construction skills he has learned during his studies. “The prefabricated building we were restoring provided plenty of challenges, and I also had the opportunity to plan with the team how the work should be carried out.”

What happens when a summer employee faces a problem? “At work, all you need to do is raise your hand and ask for help, and someone will be there. When the team thinks things through together, someone always comes up with a good idea,” Markus says in his relaxed and energetic way. He continues: “Jokiväri is a good workplace, and the people here are great.”

In his free time, Markus enjoys repairing cars and other motor vehicles, playing computer games, working with computers, and doing construction and renovation work. He certainly keeps himself busy outside work as well.

When Markus is asked whether he would recommend Jokiväri as a workplace, his answer is clear: “Yes, absolutely!” When he first saw Jokiväri’s job advertisement in the spring, his first thought was that he would not dare apply for a position that sounded so demanding. He hid the advertisement for a week while considering whether to apply. In the end, courage won, and he submitted his application. “Yes, it was definitely worth it,” he now says happily.

“Diverse work. I enjoyed having challenges and getting to think through different situations. I will miss the people.” That is how Markus sums up his summer.

The story continued even before his final working day had ended. Markus had done such a good job that he and Jokiväri agreed on continued employment for the autumn alongside his studies.
